About BattleKart Gateshead

BattleKart Gateshead is an augmented-reality karting venue on Delta Bank Road, and it is not conventional karting. There is no physical circuit. Ceiling-mounted projectors throw the track onto the floor of an open hall, sensors on the karts read what is projected, and the layout changes between games.

The company describes it as driving “real electric karts on a track with no physical obstacles, but through virtual worlds”. If you are looking for a lap time and a racing line, this is the wrong venue. If you want something a group will still be arguing about in the pub afterwards, it is a genuinely different night out.

The Circuit

There is no fixed track length to quote, because the circuit is software. Six game modes are offered: BattleRace, BattleVirus, BattleFoot, BattlePool, BattleSnake and BattleColor — so alongside straight racing you get a football variant, a pool variant and a version of Snake played in a kart.

Sessions run 15 minutes including boarding, for 2 to 12 players at a time. The karts are electric, which is what makes an indoor hall of this kind workable.

Who Should Visit

Gateshead publishes no minimum age, but every player must be at least 4‹9″ (about 145cm) tall. That is a meaningfully different rule from conventional karting, where age is usually the gate — here a tall nine-year-old may race while a short thirteen-year-old may not. Measure before you travel.

It suits groups, families with older children, and anyone who has done ordinary arrive-and-drive karting often enough to want a change.

In term time it is closed Monday and Tuesday, open 4pm-9pm Wednesday and Thursday, 12pm-9pm Friday and 10am-9pm at weekends. During school holidays it runs 10am-9pm daily. Prices were not published on the venue site at the time of writing, so confirm when you book.
