Sitting on the old Nutts Corner airfield off the Dundrod Road, this is the largest outdoor kart circuit in Northern Ireland and bills itself as the home of the province's karting scene. Unlike a lot of big circuits, it is genuinely welcoming to newcomers as well as seasoned racers — you can turn up for an arrive-and-drive blast or enter a full race event, and the venue caters for juniors as well as adults. That mix, plus a 4.6 rating across close to 500 Google reviews, is why it draws such a broad crowd.
The headline International layout runs to around two kilometres with nine corners, including the well-known Camber Hairpin, and there is a shorter 550-metre National circuit for tighter, busier racing. Adults drive Sodi GT5 (and Birel) karts powered by 270cc Honda engines, good for roughly 55mph down the straights — quick enough to make the braking zones matter. With that much tarmac to play with there is real room to slipstream and pick your overtaking spot, which is exactly what shorter indoor loops cannot give you.
Nutts Corner works for almost everyone. Adults from 16 can jump straight into arrive-and-drive or Time Attack sessions, while juniors aged 9 to 15 get speed-limited karts of their own, so it suits families as well as stag groups. For organised groups there are Grand Prix events with qualifying and trophies, multi-driver Sprints and relay Endurance races for those who want a proper team battle. It is equally at home for a first-timer's birthday and for experienced drivers chasing lap times.
The circuit is at 11 Dundrod Road, Dundrod, Crumlin (BT29 4SR), a short hop from Belfast International Airport. On site you will find cooked food, trackside viewing and a conference/function room for corporate days and parties, with catering that can be pre-booked. It is an open-air venue, so a bit of Antrim rain is part of the fun rather than a reason to cancel.
Sessions and race events both fill up, especially at weekends, so book ahead and confirm current prices and formats with the circuit directly — the timetable changes with the racing calendar through the year.
Adults drive from age 16 in the full-power Sodi karts. Nutts Corner also runs junior karting for ages 9 to 15 in speed-limited karts, so younger drivers are catered for too.
Yes. Alongside race events for experienced drivers, Nutts Corner offers arrive-and-drive and Time Attack sessions that first-timers can book, plus junior karting from age 9. The 2km layout is more demanding than a small indoor track, but staff brief and marshal newcomers, so it is a good place to learn.
