Get corporate quotes →Lyons Karting is an outdoor, family-run circuit on the Comber Road just outside Royal Hillsborough, a short drive south of Belfast. It is a genuine petrol track rather than an indoor electric centre, and it has built up an excellent reputation locally — a 4.9 Google average across more than 700 reviews puts it among the best-rated karting venues in Northern Ireland. The same site is also now home to Juggernaut Paintball, so it works well for a group looking to combine two activities in a day out.
This is a flowing outdoor layout with long straights and wide, sweeping corners that give real room to overtake — a different challenge to a tight indoor loop. What sets Lyons apart is its tiered petrol fleet, matched to age and height: juniors aged 8–11 run 160cc karts, 12–15s step up to 200cc, and adults from 16 drive the heavier 270cc machines. That means a younger driver isn't under-powered and an adult gets a properly quick kart, and there's a clear route to move up as you grow.
The age-graded karts make this a strong all-rounder for families, since children from 8 and adults can race on formats suited to them in the same visit. Arrive-and-drive Time Attack and mixed-age family sessions cover casual visits, while the race packages — The Indy, the Master Race and the Ultimate GP — add practice, qualifying and a proper timed race for anyone wanting the full grand-prix format (these longer events are 16 and over). It's equally set up for stag and hen groups, birthdays and corporate team days.
You'll find Lyons Karting at 112 Comber Road, Hillsborough (BT26 6NA). It's open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays, so plan weekend visits around Saturday. As an outdoor track it runs in most conditions, wet weather included, though it's worth a call ahead if a storm is forecast.
Catering can be arranged on request, and all the safety kit — suit, gloves and helmet — is provided. Weekend and holiday slots go quickly, and the race packages in particular need booking ahead, so reserve in advance and confirm current prices, session times and the right kart tier for your group before you travel.
Arrive-and-drive sessions start from age 8. Karts are tiered by age and height: 160cc for ages 8–11 (min 3’11"), 200cc for 12–15 (min 4’11"), and 270cc for 16+. The longer grand-prix race packages are for ages 16 and over.
Yes — Lyons Karting is rated beginner-intermediate and is genuinely accessible to drivers with no previous experience. No racing licence or prior karting is required for standard arrive & drive sessions.
