Fulbeck is one of the oldest karting venues in the country, and its history is genuinely part of the appeal. The sport arrived here in the late 1950s when American servicemen at RAF Fulbeck began racing home-built karts inside an aircraft hangar; by 1959 that had grown into a proper club running on the airfield's wartime bomber runways, and a permanent circuit was later laid out across the intersection of two of them. The Lincolnshire Kart Racing Club has run the venue ever since. It is not a leisure or arrive-and-drive centre — it is a Motorsport UK-licensed club circuit for owner-drivers and racers, which is exactly why enthusiasts rate it. Its own following describes it as one of the UK's most technical circuits.
The circuit measures around 930 metres and packs a lot of character into that distance, with several demanding corners including a hairpin and a distinctive banked corner. Being an outdoor race circuit on an exposed old airfield, it rewards commitment and precise lines rather than raw speed, and it flatters consistency over a full race distance. It runs proper petrol race karts across a wide spread of classes, from Bambino machines for the youngest right up to Senior grids.
This is a venue for racers and aspiring racers rather than casual first-timers looking for a one-off hire session. If you own or want to race a kart, Fulbeck runs two strands of racing: an independent Sprint Series open to all levels, and a Motorsport UK-licensed championship held on the fourth weekend of each month. With grids from Bambino to Senior it caters for whole families who race, and it is a well-regarded place to learn racecraft on a technical circuit. Casual visitors do get a look-in occasionally — the Club100 arrive-and-drive championship visits with its own fleet of karts — but for everyday walk-up hire karting a leisure track will suit better.
Fulbeck Kart Circuit is off Stragglethorpe Lane near Stragglethorpe, Grantham, Lincolnshire (NG32 3JS). As an outdoor circuit it runs in most conditions, but on an open airfield the weather makes a real difference, so check ahead if heavy rain or wind is forecast. Note there is no on-site catering listed, so plan food and drink accordingly.
Because racing and practice run to the club calendar rather than continuous public sessions, do not just turn up expecting to drive — check race and practice dates and any membership or licence requirements with the Lincolnshire Kart Racing Club before travelling, and confirm current costs directly with them.
Drivers need to be at least 6+ to race at Fulbeck Kart Circuit.
No prior experience is required for standard sessions at Fulbeck Kart Circuit. The track is rated intermediate-advanced, so while some technique will help you go faster, first-timers are well catered for.
Fulbeck Kart Circuit is an outdoor venue. Many sessions do run in wet conditions — and rain karting often produces the most exciting racing — but in extreme weather it's worth contacting the venue directly to confirm your session is going ahead.
Fulbeck Kart Circuit does not currently have on-site food and drink facilities. We recommend eating before you arrive or planning a stop in Grantham before or after your session.
Advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly for weekend sessions, corporate days, and birthday parties. Walk-in availability is not guaranteed. Book via the official Fulbeck Kart Circuit website or calling 07749 106101 to secure your session.
“Still a great circuit. Paddock has improved exponentially over the lads 10 years. Still a bit more work required to get this place up to the standard of the other UK venues.”
“Good kart circuit, local with good amenities. Cafe on site serving burgers, chips, wraps and breakfast stuff. Friendly staff. Only minus is the drive down there.”
“Although the entrance drive resembles a landmine test track, the track itself is nice with a full set of amenities.”
