Larkhall Circuit sits just outside the South Lanarkshire town of Larkhall, roughly 25 minutes from central Glasgow via the M74. The site has deep roots in Scottish motorsport: it began life around 1961 on the site of the former Summerlee Colliery as the home of the West of Scotland Kart Club, which still races here. A major recent refurbishment extended the track to 1,140 metres — making it Scotland's longest kart circuit — and added a new Kart Republic café along with rebuilt paddock and pit bays. The result is a proper outdoor racing venue rather than a leisure track.
At 1,140m the circuit is long enough to run genuine race distances where consistency and tyre management matter, not just short bursts of laps. Adult rental sessions use 390cc Centurion karts capable of around 60 mph, so there is real pace on the straights and meaningful commitment required through the quicker corners. It is a circuit that rewards experience: grip and balance build as the surface warms and rubbers in, and lap times typically come down as drivers settle into a rhythm across a session.
Larkhall works well for two quite different visitors. Adult Arrive & Drive (from 14) suits confident drivers, stag and hen groups and corporate days chasing a fast, competitive outdoor experience — group race packages are available for parties of eight or more. Junior and family karting from age 7, plus the faster R-MAX karts and owner-practice days, mean it also caters for younger drivers and aspiring club racers.
The resident West of Scotland Kart Club holds a race meeting roughly once a month, so for anyone who catches the bug there is a clear route from a first rental session into proper club competition on the same circuit.
Larkhall Circuit is at Merryton Road, Larkhall — postcode ML9 2UL, just off M74 junction 7. On site you will find the Kart Republic café and indoor and outdoor viewing areas, so spectators and family members can watch in comfort. As an outdoor venue, sessions frequently run in the wet, though it is worth checking ahead if severe weather is forecast.
Rental sessions, group packages and owner-practice days all book up, particularly around club race weekends, so reserve in advance. Confirm current prices and session times directly with the circuit before travelling, as they vary through the year.
Drivers need to be at least 14+ to race at Larkhall Circuit.
Larkhall welcomes first-timers as well as experienced racers. Adult Arrive & Drive sessions are open from age 14 with no experience needed, and there is junior and family karting from age 7. It is a long, fast outdoor circuit, so beginners should expect a proper challenge, but instruction and a race briefing are provided.
Larkhall Circuit is an outdoor venue. Many sessions do run in wet conditions β and rain karting often produces the most exciting racing β but in extreme weather it's worth contacting the venue directly to confirm your session is going ahead.
Yes, food and drink are available on site at Larkhall Circuit. You can make a full outing of your visit without needing to find somewhere nearby.
Advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly for weekend sessions, corporate days, and birthday parties. Walk-in availability is not guaranteed. Book via the official Larkhall Circuit website or calling 01698 909808 to secure your session.
“My son and I have been coming here since late summer 2024. He was 7 and started on the rental karts, which he loved, so much so that he wanted to progress and get his own kart. We joined WSKC and attend the club sessions whenever we can. Max loves it and can see him going for⦔
