This directory lists every go karting venue currently operating in the United Kingdom that is open to the public for arrive-and-drive sessions, corporate hire, or club racing. Venues are grouped by the nine English regions plus Wales and Northern Ireland, making it straightforward to find tracks close to you regardless of where in the UK you are based.
Of the 86 venues listed, 50 are indoor circuits and 36 are outdoor. Indoor tracks run year-round irrespective of weather and are the dominant format in urban areas. They tend to be shorter (300–800m) but make up for it with multi-level layouts, elevation changes and tight technical sections. Outdoor circuits are typically longer — several exceed 1,000m — and offer the traditional motorsport environment with natural terrain, open skies and, at championship venues, the same layouts used in national racing series.
29 of the 86 UK venues now run electric karts. The shift toward electric has been led by urban indoor venues where exhaust fumes are a practical concern. Electric karts are quieter, require no venting, and have instant torque that makes them feel fast from a standstill. Petrol karts remain standard at outdoor circuits and at venues that cater to serious club racing — they deliver the exhaust note and mechanical feel that many karting purists prefer.
Most UK go karting venues set a minimum age of 8 years. A small number of venues — notably Rye House Kart Raceway in Hertfordshire — cater for children as young as 3 with dedicated junior karts. At the other end of the spectrum, some outdoor circuits set a minimum age of 16 or even 17 for adult rental sessions. Height requirements are most common at indoor venues running high-performance electric karts; 140cm is the typical cut-off for adult sessions at TeamSport and similar operators.
Several venues on this list are licensed by Motorsport UK (formerly the MSA) for competitive karting and host rounds of national and regional championships. Notable championship venues include PF International (PFI) in Lincolnshire — the largest outdoor rental circuit in the UK — Whilton Mill in Northamptonshire (the UK's most raced-at circuit), Buckmore Park in Kent, GYG Karting in North Wales, and Karting Nation Middlesbrough, which claims the title of the world's largest karting circuit at 2.1km.
Several venues on this list have direct links to Formula 1. Rye House Kart Raceway in Hertfordshire is where Lewis Hamilton began racing at the age of eight. Buckmore Park in Kent is where Hamilton, Jenson Button and Lando Norris all developed their craft. Clay Pigeon Raceway in Dorset was an early circuit for both Button and Norris. Daytona Milton Keynes was designed by James Hunt. Eddie Irvine Sports in Bangor, Northern Ireland was founded by former Ferrari F1 driver Eddie Irvine.
How many go karting tracks are there in the UK?
GoKartingUK lists 86 go karting venues across the United Kingdom, spanning 10 regions from London and the South East to Scotland and Northern Ireland. The total number of operational tracks in the country including private and club-only facilities is higher.
Which UK region has the most go karting venues?
The Midlands has the most venues with 19 tracks, followed by the South East with 14 and London with 10 venues within 25 miles of the city centre. The density of venues in the Midlands reflects both the region's central location and its strong motorsport heritage.
What is the longest go karting track in the UK?
Karting Nation Middlesbrough claims the world's largest karting circuit at 2.1km. Among rental circuits, PF International (PFI) in Lincolnshire is the longest at 1382m, followed by Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan at 1500m and Ancaster Leisure Karting in Lincolnshire at 1300m.
Are there electric go kart tracks in the UK?
Yes — 29 of the 86 UK venues now run electric karts. All TeamSport venues have electric karts at their newer locations, as do K1 Speed, Revolution Karting, Gravity Wandsworth and Xtreme Karting Edinburgh. Electric karts are quieter, eco-friendly and have no fumes.
Can children go karting in the UK?
Most UK venues accept children aged 8 and above. Rye House Kart Raceway takes children from age 3, Anglia Indoor Karting from age 5, and several outdoor circuits offer cadet sessions from age 6. Always check the minimum height requirement as well as age — many electric kart venues require a minimum height of 140cm regardless of age.
